 94% of DAFZA’s trade was made up of machinery, televisions, electrical equipment, pearls, semi-precious stones, and metals. In the first quarter of 2021, the first group experienced a high growth rate of 32.4%, with imports totalling 14.1 billion dirhams and exports valued at 15.7 billion dirhams.

Three-quarters of DAFZA’s trade in the first quarter of this year came from China, the free zone’s largest trading partner. In comparison to the same period, it saw a strong growth of 56.4%, and 64% of its imports came from outside the country.

With over 20,000 experts across multiple industries and more than 2,800 registered enterprises, DAFZA is now home to over 20 sectors and thousands of businesses. A contract between DAFZA and the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) has been signed. Within the free zone, the regulation, offering, issuance, listing, and trading of cryptocurrency assets are supported by the agreement. The new agreement permits businesses who deal in cryptocurrency and crypto assets to obtain a license within DAFZA, since the Securities and Exchange Commission will be providing the necessary licenses and approvals. By means of this collaboration, DAFZA has broadened its scope of business licenses and commercial operations, which will be incorporated with the incentives and services offered by the free zone. Also, it will offer a legislative climate with flexibility and a regulatory framework that improves the experience of international investors.
